Carbocisteine has experimental mucoregulating properties on pathological viscous secretions, which appear in the event of respiratory tract mucosal disorders:
Clinically, carbocisteine has an in-vivo mucolytic effect, confirmed by :
- improvement in the rheological qualities of respiratory mucus (viscosity, elasticity, filance),
- normalisation of mucociliary transport through action on mucus and mucosa,
- reducing airway resistance,
These properties make carbocistein a mucoprotector for the respiratory tract:
- protection of the ciliated epithelium,
- reduction in mucociliary hyperplasia.
Carbocistein also promotes the penetration of certain antibiotics into the secretions of the respiratory mucosa (amoxicillin, bacampicillin, a combination of cefuroxim, mezlocillin, ampicillin and cefotaxin).
Carbocistein improves the mobility of pathological secretions, making expectoration easier and clearing the airways.
