Description
INDICATION
Medication to treat the symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.
Gaviscon suspension is indicated for the short-term treatment (7 days) of symptoms caused by reflux of acidic gastric contents into the oesophagus.
USE
Always take this medicine exactly as instructed in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if in doubt.
Take by mouth. Shake well before use.
The recommended dose is :
Adults and children over 12 :
10 to 20 ml (2 to 4 teaspoons) after meals and at bedtime.
Use in children under 12 :
5 to 10 ml (1 to 2 teaspoons) after meals and at bedtime.
If desired, these doses can be diluted with water, but it is advisable not to add more than an equal quantity of water. Mix well.
If symptoms worsen or persist after 7 days, consult a doctor.
If you have taken more Gaviscon than you should have
If you have taken too much Gaviscon, you may feel bloated. This is unlikely to cause you any harm.
However, consult your doctor or pharmacist if this feeling persists.
If you have taken too much Gaviscon, contact your doctor, pharmacist or the Poison Centre (070/245 245) immediately.
If you forget to take Gaviscon
Do not take a double dose next time. Just take it as before.
If you stop taking Gaviscon suspension
Treatment can be stopped without any special precautions.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Never take Gaviscon
- If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine, including hydroxybenzoate esters (parahydroxybenzoates). These ingredients are listed in the additional information section.
- Skin irritations and respiratory difficulties may very rarely occur.
COMPOSITION
What does Gaviscon suspension contain?
- The active ingredients are: sodium alginate and sodium bicarbonate.
- The other ingredients are: calcium carbonate, carbomer (974 P), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), sodium saccharinate, fennel oil, erythrosine (E127), sodium hydroxide, purified water.
