Description

The Seresto Pest Control Collar is intended for dogs over 7 weeks of age. It is an antiparasitic device for skin use, designed to eliminate ticks, fleas and lice in dogs. One collar per animal, to be fixed around the neck.

Features of the Seresto Pest Control Collar for Dogs :

Target species: dogs older than 7 weeks.
Indications for use of the SERESTO DOG COLLAR: 38 cm collar for dogs weighing 8 kg or less.
Indications for use of the SERESTO LARGE DOG COLLAR: 70 cm collar for dogs weighing more than 8 kg.
Indications for use :
Treatment (Ctenocephalides felis) and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis and Ctenocephalides canis) for 7 to 8 months. The drug protects the animal’s immediate environment against the development of flea larvae for 8 months.
The product has a (lethal) acaricidal action (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor reticulatus) and a repellent action (preventing the parasites from feeding) against tick infestations (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus) for 8 months. It is effective against larvae, pupae and adult ticks. Ticks already present on the dog before treatment may not be killed within 48 hours after application of the collar, and remain fixed and visible. Therefore, it is recommended to remove ticks already present on the dog at the time of application. Prevention of new tick infestations begins within 2 days after application of the collar.
The product provides indirect protection against the transmission of Babesia canis vogeli and Ehrlichia canis from the vector Rhipicephalus sanguineus, thus reducing the risk of canine babesiosis and canine ehrlichiosis for 7 months. Treatment of infestations by crushing lice (Trichodectes canis).
Ideally, the collar should be applied before the start of the flea and tick season.
It can be integrated into a therapeutic programme for Allergic Flea Bite Dermatitis (ASD), after diagnosis by the veterinarian.

Specific warnings for each target species

The ticks will be killed and will detach from the host 24 to 48 hours after the infestation, usually without a blood meal. Fixation of a tick after treatment remains possible. Therefore, the transmission of infectious diseases by ticks cannot be completely excluded if conditions are unfavourable.
As with all products with long-term topical action, seasonal periods of heavy hair loss may possibly cause a slight temporary reduction in the effectiveness of the treatment due to the loss of part of the active substances attached to the hair. The release of the active ingredients from the collar resumes immediately, so that full effectiveness will be restored without further treatment or replacement of the collar.
For optimal flea control in heavily infested homes, it may be necessary to treat the environment with a suitable insecticide.

Contraindications

Do not treat puppies under 7 weeks of age.
Do not use in case of known hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the excipients.

Undesirable effects (frequency and severity)

Occasionally, mild behavioural disturbances, which may include scratching at the application site, may be observed in animals not accustomed to wearing collars during the first few days after application. Ensure that the collar is not too tight.
Slight reactions at the application site such as pruritus, erythema, hair loss may occur. These reactions have rarely been reported and usually disappear within 1-2 weeks without removing the collar. In some cases, temporary removal of the collar may be recommended until the symptoms disappear.
In very rare cases, application site reactions such as dermatitis, inflammation, eczema or lesions may occur and in such cases, it is recommended to remove the collar.
In rare cases, mild and transient reactions such as depression, change in food intake, salivation, vomiting and diarrhoea may occur initially.

Use in case of pregnancy, lactation or egg laying.

Laboratory studies conducted with either flumethrin or imidacloprid in rats and rabbits have shown no evidence of effects on fertility or reproduction or of teratogenic or foetotoxic effects. However, the safety of the veterinary drug has not been established in the target species during pregnancy and lactation and in the absence of available data, use of the product is therefore not recommended in pregnant or lactating bitches.
