Description

The Seresto® Pest Control Collar is intended for cats over 10 weeks of age. It is an anti-parasitic device for skin use, designed to eliminate ticks and fleas in cats. One grey collar per animal, to be fixed around the neck. The Seresto® anti-parasite collar for cats is grey, odourless, water-resistant, fits perfectly around the cat’s neck and has a secure fastening system. Ideally, the collar should be applied before the start of the flea and tick season.

This product is a veterinary medicine. Read the instructions carefully before use and ask your veterinarian or pharmacist for advice. If symptoms persist, consult your veterinarian.

Features of the Seresto® Cat Pest Control Collar :

Target species: Cats over 10 weeks of age.
Indications for use :
Treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) for 7 to 8 months. The medicine protects the animal’s immediate environment against the development of flea larvae for 10 weeks.
The product has an acaricidal (lethal) action (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus turanicus) and a repellent action (preventing the parasites from feeding) against infestations by ticks (Ixodes ricinus) for 8 months. It is effective against larvae, pupae and adult ticks. Ticks already present on the cat before treatment may not be killed within 48 hours after application of the collar, and remain fixed and visible. Therefore, it is recommended to remove ticks already present on the cat at the time of application. Prevention of new tick infestations begins within 2 days after application of the collar.
Ideally, the collar should be applied before the start of the flea and tick season.
It can be integrated into a therapeutic programme for Allergic Flea Bite Dermatitis (ASD), after diagnosis by the veterinarian.
Packaging :
Box of 1 sachet of 1 38 cm collar

Specific warnings for each target species

The ticks will be killed and will detach from the host 24 to 48 hours after the infestation, usually without a blood meal. Fixation of a tick after treatment remains possible. Therefore, the transmission of infectious diseases by ticks cannot be completely excluded if conditions are unfavourable.
As with all products with long-term topical action, seasonal periods of heavy hair loss may cause a slight temporary reduction in the effectiveness of the treatment due to the loss of part of the active substances attached to the hair. The release of the active ingredients from the collar resumes immediately, so that full effectiveness will be restored without further treatment or replacement of the collar.
For optimal flea control in heavily infested homes, it may be necessary to treat the environment with a suitable insecticide.

Contraindications

Do not treat kittens under 10 weeks of age.
Do not use in case of known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the excipients.

Special precautions for the user:

Keep the sachet containing the collar in its box until use.
As with any veterinary medicinal product, do not allow young children to play with the collar or to put it in their mouths.
Animals wearing the collar should not be allowed to sleep in the same bed as their owners, especially children.
People with known hypersensitivity to the ingredients in the collar should avoid direct contact with the collar.
Immediately remove any remains or falls from the collar.
Wash your hands with cold water after putting on the collar.
Undesirable effects (frequency and severity)

Occasionally, mild behavioural disturbances, which may include scratching at the application site, may be observed in animals not accustomed to wearing collars during the first few days after application. Ensure that the collar is not too tight.
Slight reactions at the application site such as pruritus, erythema, hair loss may occur. These reactions have been reported infrequently and usually disappear within 1-2 weeks without removing the collar. In some cases, temporary removal of the collar may be recommended until the symptoms disappear.
In rare cases, application site reactions such as dermatitis, inflammation, eczema or lesions may occur and in these cases, it is recommended to remove the collar.
In rare cases, mild and transient reactions such as depression, change in food intake, salivation, vomiting and diarrhea may occur initially. As with other topical applications, allergic contact dermatitis can occur in hypersensitive animals.

Use in case of pregnancy, lactation or laying of eggs

Laboratory studies conducted with either flumethrin or imidacloprid in rats and rabbits have shown no evidence of effects on fertility or reproduction or of teratogenic or foetotoxic effects. However, the safety of the veterinary medicinal product has not been established in the target species during pregnancy and lactation and in the absence of available data, use of the product is therefore not recommended in pregnant or lactating cats.
