Description
Zyrtec (cetirizine dihydrochloride) 10 mg film-coated tablets are indicated in adults and children aged 6 years and over :
- for the relief of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis;
- for the relief of symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Dosage
10 mg once daily (1 tablet).
Renal insufficiency
Due to its essentially renal elimination, and if no alternative treatment is available, cetirizine should be administered by adjusting the dosage and the interval between doses according to renal clearance.
Paediatric population
The tablet should not be used in children under 6 years of age as it does not allow for the necessary dosage adjustment.
- Children aged 6 to 12 years: 5 mg twice daily (1/2 tablet twice daily).
- Adolescents over 12: 10 mg once a day (1 tablet)
- In children with renal impairment, dosage will be adjusted individually according to renal clearance, age and body weight.
Method of administration
The tablets should be swallowed with a glass of liquid.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance, to any of the excipients, to hydroxyzine or to piperazine derivatives.
- Patients with end-stage renal disease with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of less than 15 ml/min.
