Licorice contains a triterpene, glycyrrhizin, which promotes the production of gastric juices and releases pepsinogens, resulting in an anti-inflammatory and anti-ulcer function. Glycyrrhizin is also expectorant, antitussive and healing. Licorice contains flavonoids: liquiritoside, rhamnoliquiretin, iso-liquiretin with spasmolytic properties.

A flavonoid with a very powerful anti-ulcer effect has recently been discovered in the plant: 3-dimethylhexuronate-4,7-dihydroxyflavonol. Licorice also contains sucrose, dextrose (10%), proteins, amino acids (aspargine, choline, betaine), starchy substances (30%), fats, bitter substances (6%), an essential oil with methylsalicylate, oestradiol and saponins. These anti-inflammatory substances heal stomach ulcers, reinforce the action of oestrogens and have a 'cortison-like' effect.

The root of Althaea (Marshmallow) contains a high proportion of mucilage (40%) with anti-infectious properties that reduce and soothe coughs. Marshmallow also contains starches (35%), betaine (5%), pectin (10%), inulin and minerals that protect the stomach and intestines.

Clay has been known for centuries as an effective means of healing wounds, stomach and intestinal ulcers, irritations and skin and mucous membrane ailments. Thanks to its ability to absorb toxic and putrefactive substances, the regeneration of cell tissue takes place under ideal conditions. A protective colloid layer forms in the stomach.
