Lepidium latifolium, grande passerage or rompepiedras, belongs to the fleuron family (Cruciferae) and is highly effective in the treatment of kidney stones. The composition of this plant is not yet fully known. It contains a sulphur-containing essential oil with aperitive, digestive and diuretic properties, as well as an important component - lepidin - with cytotoxic (proven by animal experiments), antifungal, contraceptive and pancreas-stimulating properties, and which fights black fever. The plant also contains gums and mucilage. Its main property is the evacuation and dissolution of kidney stones, especially calcium oxalate stones. Recent studies have reported a reduction in blood triglyceride levels and normalisation of prostate hyperplasia.
