Echinacea is the plant of choice for its immunostimulant properties. Its main substances are alkylamides, echinacosides (caffeic acids) and polysaccharides (rhamno-arabinogalactan or echinacin). It also contains an essential oil, vitamin C, flavonoids, pentosans, fibre and minerals (zinc).

The main mechanisms of action are: stimulation of phagocytosis, inhibition of hyaluronidase, increased permeability of blood vessels and stimulation of fibroblasts and interferon.

Echinacea is an immune system stimulant which is successfully used in the preventive and curative treatment of chronic and acute infections.
