Composition: dehydrated broccoli juice 600 mg, microcrystalline cellulose 438 mg, freeze-dried broccoli extract 200 mg (16%), magnesium stearate 12 mg.

Properties: antioxidant, stomach protector, liver detoxifier, depurative, brain stimulant.

Broccoli, garlic and celery are at the top of the food pyramid with potentially anti-cancer properties. Broccoli is the king of the cruciferaceae and has more protective qualities than any other cabbage. It contains almost all the vitamins: vit. C, folic acid, B1, B2, K, E, beta-carotene and the minerals Ca, Mg, K, Zn, Fe, Cu, etc. The active ingredients are sulphurous glucosinolates and their corresponding isothiocyanates: allyl isothiocyanate, sulforaphane (high density in broccoli), crambene and indol-3-carbinol.

A. Antioxidant

  • prevents cancer by inducing the glutathione enzymes that neutralise free radicals. Antioxidant activity measured as SOD-like is highest in broccoli.

  • stimulates the production of Keap 1 and NRF 2 proteins, which are necessary for the production of proteins that repair DNA damage.

B. Detoxifier

  • effect on phase 1 and phase 2 enzymes. Phase 1 enzymes make pre-carcinogens more reactive, water-soluble and more available to the body. Phase 2 enzymes detoxify the carcinogens (produced by phase 1), rendering them inert and removing them from the body. We look for nutrients that stimulate the formation of phase 2 enzymes and inhibit the formation of phase 1 enzymes.

sulforaphane is an inducer (MFI) which stimulates the formation of phase 2 enzymes****.

  • indol-3-carbinol is transformed into DIM (3,3-diindolmethane) in the stomach. DIM stimulates the production of a protein that kills cancer cells (p21) and reduces the production of another protein that cancer cells need for their survival (p38).

  • stimulation of apoptosis, pre-programmed death in the event of DNA damage.

C. A bactericidal effect on H. Pylori****.

  • sulforaphane, present in high density in broccoli, has a bactericidal effect on H. Pylori.

  • sulforaphane reduces the development of stomach and intestinal tumours in mice.

  • sulforaphane reduces atrophy of the stomach mucosa and thus prevents the development of stomach cancer.

D. Stimulates memory

King's College London has shown that broccoli stimulates memory. This is important for the prevention of Alzheimer's disease.

Eating broccoli regularly prevents brain decay. So far there is no evidence that broccoli combats the disease itself.
