The leaves of Ribes nigrum (Blackcurrant) contain an essential oil, tannins, minerals, vitamin C and quinic acid with diuretic and anti-rheumatic properties. They are effective against rheumatism, uric acid and hypertension. The high level of terpenoids and proanthocyanins (procyanidol, prodelphinidol) have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties, stimulate the adrenal cortex and increase the natural level of cortisol. Blackcurrant is used externally to treat allergic rhinorrhoea.

The essential oil of Hyssop (1%) contains thujone, nerolidol, pinene, terpinene and pinocamphon, which have the property of reducing cramps and aiding digestion. The bitter substance 'marrubin' and tannins (8%) have expectorant properties, reduce coughing and dilute mucous membranes. Hyssop also contains flavonoids: hesperidin and diosmoside, phenolic acids: caffeine, chlorogenin and rosmarin, triterpenes: ursolic acid, oleanolic acid, choline, which can increase blood pressure, slow perspiration and have an antigonadotropic effect. Hyssop is mainly used for coughs, bronchitis and asthma.

Savory essential oil contains a lot of carvacrol, which is a very powerful natural antibiotic with stimulant, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and antifungal properties. Savory is used for intestinal infections, weakness, asthma and bronchitis.

Thyme essential oil contains high levels of thymol, a highly aromatic natural antibiotic with stimulating, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Thyme is used for coughs, bronchitis and asthma.

Sage essential oil contains pinene, limonene, camphene, myrcene, caryophyllene, linalool, terpineol, borneol, viridiflorol, cineol, thujon and camphor, with spasmolytic, antimycotic, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. Sage contains bitter substances: picrosalvine or carnosol and tannins that aid digestion, stimulate the gall bladder and are carminative, expectorant and cough suppressant.

Lavender essential oil contains a lot of linalool, which has calming, antispasmodic, anti-allergic and healing properties.
