Tobacco dependence

• To relieve nicotine withdrawal symptoms in people who want to stop smoking
• 2 mg chewing gum is recommended for smokers with a low to moderate nicotine dependence

Adults

• Usual dose: 8 to 12 gums a day
• Maximum dosage: 25 gum packs per day
• After three months of treatment, gradually reduce the number of chewing gums each day. Treatment should be discontinued when the daily dose has been reduced to 1 to 2 gum chews
• The recommended duration of treatment is 6 months. However, some former smokers may need a longer treatment period to avoid relapse

Method of administration

• Chew the gum until the taste becomes strong
• Place the gum between the gum and the cheek
• When the taste fades, chew the gum again
• Alternate chewing and pauses for 30 minutes
• Avoid drinking coffee or soft drinks in the 15 minutes before chewing gum (risk of reduced absorption of nicotine through the oral mucosa)
