Hyperhomocysteinemia

• The treatment of severe hyperhomocysteinemia, since folic acid can reduce the concentration of homocysteine in the blood.
• The usefulness of folic acid in the treatment of moderate hyperhomocysteinemia has not been proven

Pregnancy

• Prevention of abnormalities in the developing central nervous system of the foetus
• In women at high risk: a positive family history of neural tube defects or who have already given birth to a child with neural tube defects
• Macrocytic anaemia due to folic acid deficiency until serum levels normalise

Macrocytic megaloblastic anaemias

• Occurring in alcoholics and malnourished patients, particularly the elderly
• Induced by the absorption of certain drugs: certain anti-epileptics, oral contraceptives, sulphasalazine, anti-tuberculosis drugs, etc
• Following malabsorption caused by intestinal disorders

Hyperhomocysteinemia

• 1 tablet per day

Pregnancy

• 1 tablet per day
• Start before conception and continue until the twelfth week of pregnancy
• 1 tablet per day with a meal and a glass of water
• Start as soon as folate deficiency is confirmed and continue until anaemia is corrected
• Then ensure that the daily intake of folic acid is sufficient (approximately 400 mcg/day)

Megaloblastic anaemia

• 1 tablet per day
• Start as soon as folate deficiency is confirmed and continue until the anaemia is corrected
• Then ensure that the daily intake of folic acid is sufficient (approximately 200 mcg/day)
• 1 tablet per day
• Start as soon as folate deficiency is confirmed and continue until anaemia is corrected
• Then regular intake sufficient to prevent a new deficiency (approx. 200 mcg/day)
