METHODS OF TAKING YOUR TEMPERATURE

Measure your body temperature using the same method and always at the same time. Whichever method you choose, we recommend that you do not eat, drink, smoke, exert yourself or take a bath for 15 minutes before taking your temperature.

Rectal temperature (6±1 seconds)

Generally used for taking temperatures in babies, young children or when oral or axillary temperature taking is not possible.

1. Lubricate the probe head with Vaseline to facilitate insertion.

2. Gently insert the tip about 1 cm into the rectum. Keep the thermometer in place throughout the measurement. If there is any resistance, stop the measurement.

3. 4 beeps will sound when the temperature reading is complete. The ºC or ºF symbol will stop flashing. The measured temperature can be read even after the thermometer has been removed from the measurement site. The measured temperature is 0.5° to 1°C higher than the oral temperature.

Oral temperature (8±2 seconds)

1. Place the head of the probe under the tongue. For greater accuracy, close your mouth tightly throughout the measurement. Do not bite the thermometer.

2. 4 beeps will sound when the temperature has been taken. The ºC or ºF symbol will stop flashing. The measured temperature can be read even after the thermometer has been removed from the measurement site.

Underarm temperature (10±2 seconds)

This method is used for babies and young children. The measurement time is longer and the measurement less accurate.

1. Wipe the armpit with a dry towel.

2. Place the probe head under the armpit. 4 beeps will sound when the temperature has been taken. The ºC or ºF symbol will stop flashing. The measured temperature can be read even after the thermometer has been removed from the measurement site. The temperature measured is 1°C lower than the oral temperature.
