Pharmacotherapeutic class: analgesics and antipyretics

Lysine acetylsalicylate, the active substance in ASPEGIC, is a water-soluble salt of acetylsalicylic acid (A.A.S.) and, like A.A.S., has an antipyretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory (in high doses) and anti-platelet aggregation action.

These 4 actions are explained by the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, as lysine acetylsalicylate irreversibly inhibits the active site of cyclo-oxygenase.
